JD Vance India Visit: US Vice President JD Vance will visit India from 21 to 24 April 2025, the Ministry of External Affairs said on Wednesday.

He will embark on a weeklong two-nation visit to Italy and India on April 18, the White House said on Wednesday.

Vance will be accompanied by his wife Usha Vance, and their three children- Ewan, Vivek and Mirabel.

In Italy, JD Vancewill hold meetings with Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni and Vatican Secretary of State Cardinal Pietro Parolin.

On April 21, Vance will travel to India where he will hold meetings with Prime Minister Narendra Modi and other Indian officials and would discuss shared economic and geopolitical priorities with the leaders.

The US Vice President will also travel to Jaipur and Agra during the visit and participate in engagements at cultural sites, the White House statement said.

“The visit will provide an opportunity for both sides to review the progress in bilateral relations and the implementation of the outcomes of the India-U.S. Joint Statement issued on 13 February 2025 during the visit of the Prime Minister to the US. The two sides will also exchange views on regional and global developments of mutual interest,” the MEA said in a press statement.

This would be Usha Vance’s first visit to her home country as the Second Lady of the United States. She traces her roots to Andhra Pradesh and comes with a full bag of credentials and a touch of Indian culture in the American political system.

JD Vance’s visit comes comes at a crucial time, as New Delhi and Washington are looking to sign the first tranche of a bilateral trade deal that was announced during PM Modi’s meeting with US President Donald Trump in February this year.

This came as Donald Trump imposed 27% reciprocal tariffs on Indian goods on April 2, but announced a 90-day pause on tariffs on all countries with the exception of China. As per the sources, while it is difficult for the agreement to be signed within this period, its form and structure may be decided in 90 days.

India, US Finalise Terms Of Reference Of Bilateral Trade Deal

Meanwhile, India and the US have finalised terms of reference for talks over the first part of the bilateral trade deal, an Indian trade official had told news agency Reuters last week, adding that it was possible that a “win-win” deal could take shape in the next 90 days.

The US is India’s largest trading partner and two-way trade between the countries surpassed $118 billion in 2023-24.

PM Modi visited Washington DC in February this year to meet Donald Trump, where they agreed to finalise the first part of the bilateral trade agreement by this year. An American delegation led by Assistant Trade Representative Brendan Lynch visited New Delhi in March for talks on the deal.
